Quantitative detection of the microbial content of Actinobacteria and a complete Mold Panel using (NGS) Next-Generation Sequencing.

Sample Limitations:  Dust by Swiffer cloth sampling – we require a minimum of 10 mg dust – if you can see plenty of dust on the Swiffer it will be fine.

 

1. Please avoid sampling surfaces that have been hot.

2. Avoid surfaces that have been exposed to biocides, e.g Chlorine containing chemicals

3. Please, don’t sample from surfaces where there is Drywall dust or clay-like powder present.

 

Actinomycetes

The most frequent bacteria species found on Water-Damaged Building are Actinobacteria (which includes Actinomyces and Mycobacteria) this is the kind of bacteria that produce biotoxins similar to mold mycotoxin.  As a whole, biotoxins from bacteria by weight and by mass are far more important than say, mycotoxins. ”  This test is based on Next Generation DNA sequencing, also known as 16S metagenomics.  The test is based on the microbial I.D of all the bacteria in the sample.  The Actinomycetes test was developed by selecting the top 40 Actinobacteria species in the sample to create a score of actinobacteria in a situation of Building-Related Illness (BRI).

 

Species included in the score have been reported in multiple studies linking them with BRI.

 

    The score ranges from a value of 0 to 40 Actinobacteria species.

Score system:

Score Score Range Interpretation
Q1 9 or below Indicative of a Healthy Building
Q2 Between 10 to 15 Further investigation needed
Q3 Greater than 15 Suggestive of Building-Related Illness

 

 

Total Mold

Quantitative detection of the total mold species composition in the sample by Next Generation Sequencing.

This test goes beyond the HERTSMI-2 test which is a targeted for 5 mold species or the ERMI test which is targeted for 36 mold species, instead, total mold test will detect and quantify all the molds species in the sample and report in the results as spore equivalent per milligrams of the sample.
