What Is ERMI200?

ERMI gives you a score. ERMI200 gives you a broader view.

Traditional ERMI testing evaluates a defined group of 36 targeted mold species. ERMI200 starts with the information customers want from an ERMI assessment and then expands the investigation through broader sequencing-based fungal DNA analysis.

ERMI

ERMI Foundation

Includes the molds used in the familiar ERMI framework for indoor environmental assessment.

H2

HERTSMI-2

Adds information on the five molds commonly used in the HERTSMI-2 framework.

DNA+

Expanded Fungal Profile

Provides broader sequencing-based identification of fungi beyond a limited targeted panel.

Think of ERMI200 as ERMI plus a much deeper investigation of the fungal DNA present in the environment.
ERMI vs. ERMI200

When 36 targeted molds aren't the whole story

ERMI200 is designed for customers who want the familiar ERMI framework while looking more broadly at the fungal DNA detected in an environmental dust sample.

Is ERMI200 Right For You?

Choose ERMI200 when you want more than a standard mold panel

ERMI200 may be a useful option when your environmental investigation calls for broader fungal DNA information.

01

You want ERMI — plus more

Get the familiar ERMI framework while expanding the investigation beyond the traditional targeted species.

02

You're concerned about Fusarium

Expanded Fusarium coverage is one of the key differences between ERMI200 and conventional ERMI testing.

03

You want Candida information

Traditional ERMI was not designed to characterize Candida and related environmental yeasts.

04

Previous testing feels incomplete

A limited targeted panel may identify only part of a more complex fungal environment.

05

There's a water-damage history

Long-standing moisture conditions can involve complex fungal communities that may warrant broader investigation.

06

You want a deeper fungal profile

ERMI200 is designed for customers and professionals who want substantially more fungal DNA information from an environmental sample.

Don't stop at the ERMI score.

ERMI200 combines familiar ERMI information with a substantially broader look at fungal DNA in the sampled environment.

Expanded Fusarium Detection

See beyond limited Fusarium coverage

One of the important advantages of ERMI200 is expanded detection of Fusarium. Traditional ERMI provides only a limited view of this large and diverse fungal genus.

Fusarium species occur in soil, plants, organic materials and some moisture-affected environments. Certain species are capable of producing biologically active secondary metabolites.

Important: Detection of Fusarium DNA does not demonstrate active fungal growth and does not confirm mycotoxin production.

Examples of Fusarium species

Fusarium oxysporum
Fusarium solani species complex
Fusarium proliferatum
Fusarium sporotrichioides
Fusarium poae
Fusarium culmorum
Fusarium fujikuroi
Fusarium incarnatum
Fusarium langsethiae
Additional species supported by the assay database

Why expanded Fusarium information can matter

  • Can help characterize complex fungal environments.
  • May identify fungi not represented in conventional ERMI panels.
  • Can provide additional information when investigating unusual or persistent moisture problems.
  • May support consideration of separate environmental mycotoxin testing when mycotoxin contamination is specifically suspected.
ERMI tells you about the traditional ERMI molds. ERMI200 helps reveal what may be present beyond them.
Expanded Candida Detection

Indoor fungal DNA isn't limited to filamentous molds

ERMI200 expands the analysis to include numerous Candida and related yeast species that are not part of the conventional 36-species ERMI panel.

Examples of Candida and related yeasts

  • Candida albicans
  • Candida auris
  • Candida tropicalis
  • Candida parapsilosis
  • Candida dubliniensis
  • Candida haemulonii
  • Nakaseomyces glabrata (formerly Candida glabrata)
  • Pichia kudriavzevii (commonly associated with the former Candida krusei designation)

Why look beyond mold?

Finding Candida DNA in an environmental dust sample can provide additional information about the fungal DNA present in the sampled environment.

This is information that is not represented by the conventional 36-species ERMI panel.

Environmental detection does not establish infection, colonization or another human disease.

Special interest: Candida auris. Environmental detection may provide additional information in certain healthcare or high-risk environmental investigations. Detection in an environmental sample does not establish human infection or colonization.
Broader Fungal Information

Expanded Aspergillus & Penicillium detection

ERMI200 can provide a broader view of important indoor fungal genera that are only partially represented by traditional targeted ERMI testing.

Expanded Analysis

Aspergillus

Traditional ERMI targets selected Aspergillus species. ERMI200 can provide a broader view of this important indoor fungal genus and may reveal species outside limited targeted panels.

Expanded Analysis

Penicillium

Penicillium contains many species with different ecological characteristics. Broader sequencing can provide greater taxonomic resolution than a generic “Penicillium detected” result.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions before choosing ERMI200?

Is ERMI200 the same as ERMI?

No. ERMI evaluates a defined panel of fungal species. ERMI200 adds broader sequencing-based fungal analysis to provide substantially more information about fungal DNA present in the environmental sample.

Why should I choose ERMI200 instead of standard ERMI?

ERMI200 is designed for customers who want the familiar ERMI framework while also looking beyond the conventional targeted panel. It may be especially useful when broader information about Fusarium, Candida, Aspergillus, Penicillium and other fungi is desired.

Why is Fusarium emphasized?

Fusarium is a large and diverse fungal genus that is not comprehensively represented by traditional ERMI testing. Broader sequencing can identify numerous Fusarium species beyond a limited targeted panel.

Does ERMI200 test for Candida?

Yes. The expanded fungal analysis includes numerous Candida and related yeast species supported by the assay database.

Can ERMI200 detect Candida auris?

The expanded species coverage includes Candida auris. Environmental detection indicates that DNA assigned to the organism was detected under the analytical criteria used by the laboratory. It does not diagnose human infection or colonization.

Does detecting Fusarium mean mycotoxins are present?

No. Detection of DNA from a potentially mycotoxin-producing fungus does not demonstrate that the organism was actively producing mycotoxins. Direct environmental mycotoxin testing should be considered separately when mycotoxin contamination is specifically being investigated.

Does detecting Candida mean someone has a Candida infection?

No. ERMI200 analyzes an environmental sample, not a patient specimen. Environmental detection cannot diagnose human infection or colonization.

Can ERMI200 be used after remediation?

ERMI200 can provide additional fungal DNA information as part of a broader post-remediation environmental assessment. Results should be considered together with building history, moisture assessment, visual inspection and other relevant environmental findings.

ERMI200 / MSqNGS

Don't look for only a handful of molds when the environment may contain much more.

Start with the familiar ERMI framework and go further with expanded Fusarium, Candida, Aspergillus, Penicillium and broader fungal DNA analysis from an environmental dust sample.

Environmental Testing Statement: ERMI200 is an environmental laboratory analysis of the submitted sample. Detection of fungal DNA indicates that DNA assigned to the reported organism was detected in that sample under the analytical criteria used by the laboratory. Environmental results should be interpreted in the context of sampling conditions, building history, moisture conditions and other environmental findings. Detection does not by itself establish organism viability, active growth, mycotoxin production, human exposure, infection, colonization, toxicity or disease.
