COMPLEMENTARY INFORMATION

Mold DNA and mycotoxins
measure different things.

ERMI evaluates DNA from selected fungal organisms. MycoTox 50 uses targeted LC-MS/MS to evaluate selected chemical compounds recovered from the environmental sample.

MSqPCR
ERMI MOLD DNA

What mold DNA is detected?

DNA-based analysis identifies and quantifies 36 selected mold species or groups in the submitted indoor dust sample.

  • 36 ERMI mold species / groups
  • 26 Group I molds
  • 10 Group II molds
  • ERMI score calculation
  • HERTSMI-2 information included
+
Why combine them?

The two methods provide complementary environmental information. Finding fungal DNA does not prove that a particular mycotoxin is present, while detecting a compound does not independently identify the exact organism that produced it.

5-BUSINESS-DAY PANEL
ENVIRONMENTAL RELATIVE MOLDINESS INDEX

Understand the mold DNA profile in your dust.

ERMI is a DNA-based dust analysis that evaluates 36 selected mold species or groups and compares Group I and Group II results to calculate a relative moldiness index.

36 Total Mold Species
26 Group I
10 Group II
ERMI CALCULATION
ERMI = Σ log10 Group I − Σ log10 Group II

The calculation compares the summed log concentrations of Group I molds with those of Group II molds.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR RESULTS

Environmental data needs context.

ERMI and MycoTox 50 provide laboratory information about the submitted environmental sample. The results should be considered together with building conditions and other relevant environmental information.

01

Mold DNA ≠ active growth

Detection of fungal DNA identifies DNA present in the submitted dust sample. By itself, it does not establish active mold growth at the time of sampling.

02

A metabolite ≠ exact source

Some compounds can be associated with more than one organism. Detection does not independently establish the exact organism that produced it.

03

Environmental ≠ medical

These analyses characterize the submitted environmental sample and do not diagnose illness, infection, individual exposure, or disease causation.

!
Environmental Testing Statement

Results do not independently establish source organism, ongoing toxin production, airborne concentration, inhaled or absorbed dose, infection, toxicity, disease causation, or building safety. Universally accepted health-based thresholds for mycotoxins in indoor dust have not been established.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ERMI MycoTox 50™

What does ERMI MycoTox 50™ include?
It combines ERMI analysis of 36 mold species or groups with targeted LC-MS/MS analysis of a defined 50-analyte environmental panel. HERTSMI-2 information is also included with the ERMI analysis.
What is the difference between ERMI and MycoTox 50?
ERMI evaluates DNA from selected fungal organisms using MSqPCR. MycoTox 50 directly evaluates selected chemical compounds in environmental dust using targeted LC-MS/MS.
Does finding mold DNA mean mycotoxins are present?
No. Detecting fungal DNA does not by itself establish that a particular mycotoxin or fungal metabolite is present in the sample.
Does detecting a mycotoxin identify the mold that produced it?
Not necessarily. Some metabolites can be associated with more than one organism. The chemical result should not be treated as independent identification of its exact fungal source.
What sample is used?
The analysis uses an environmental indoor dust sample collected according to the instructions for the selected sampling configuration.
What technology is used?
ERMI uses mold-specific quantitative PCR (MSqPCR). The MycoTox 50 component uses targeted liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).
Is this a medical diagnostic test?
No. ERMI MycoTox 50™ is an environmental laboratory analysis. It does not diagnose disease or independently establish individual exposure, absorbed dose, toxicity, or disease causation.
ERMI + MYCOTOX 50™

Go beyond mold identification.

Combine comprehensive ERMI mold DNA analysis with targeted chemical analysis of 50 selected environmental analytes.
