Mycotoxin environmental testing
What is the difference between the 5-day and 15-day options?
The 5-day pathway uses a defined 50-analyte panel. The 15-day pathway provides broader fungal-metabolite profiling organized around primary mycotoxins, fungal groups and extended secondary metabolites.
Is the 5-day panel simply the 15-day panel processed faster?
No. They are different analytical configurations. The 5-day option is a defined focused panel, while the 15-day option is designed for broader comprehensive profiling.
What analytical technology is used?
Environmental mycotoxin and metabolite analysis uses targeted liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry, commonly abbreviated LC-MS/MS.
Does detecting a metabolite identify the mold that produced it?
Not necessarily. Some metabolites can be associated with more than one organism. Detection of a compound does not independently establish the exact fungal source.
Why are some compounds separated from the fungal mycotoxins?
Some detected or targeted compounds may be bacterial, microbial, plant-pathogen-associated or otherwise not classified as indoor fungal mycotoxins. These are presented separately to avoid conflating them with the fungal mycotoxin results.
Does environmental mycotoxin testing diagnose illness?
No. The assay characterizes compounds in the submitted environmental sample. Results do not independently establish individual exposure, absorbed dose, toxicity, disease causation or building safety.
